Neither monsoon closes it. They swap which side of an atoll the mantas feed on, which is a choice rather than a problem.

Hulhangu — southwest monsoon

Wetter and rougher, with plankton-rich green water on the eastern side — which is precisely why the Hanifaru manta aggregation happens now.
